Cumberbatch & Freeman Confirmed For Sherlock Season 4

Following on from Benedict Cumberbatch letting slip to RadioTimes.com earlier this year that he had signed up for series four of Sherlock, producer Sue Vertue has given the firmest confirmation yet that the next series won't be the show's last.

Speaking at San Diego Comic Con alongside co-creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, the producer revealed – to huge applause - that Cumberbatch and co-star Martin Freeman have been “optioned” for series four.

There is definitely going to be a fourth series,” she said, “we just haven't decided when we're going to do it...I think as long as everyone wants to keep doing it, we'll keep doing it.”

Meanwhile, Moffat confirmed their current filming model makes it easy for everyone to come back to the series in between other roles. In reference to Cumberbatch's slip in March, he also joked that the star is “probably the biggest 'yes' we need, but he doesn't really have any commissioning power...”

You excited?
