Finally! The First Trailer For Captain America 2

We have all been waiting a REALLY long time for the first trailer for Capt. America: The Winter Solider - and it's finally here!


Not surprisingly, it looks positively kick ass. We get our first look at Cap (Chris Evans) facing off with his old pal the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), who actually looks like a pretty worthy adversary for America’s golden boy. We also get a first look at Anthony Mackie taking flight as Falcon; Cap taking out a whole elevator full of guys; and some nifty downtown battles that are a little bit reminiscent of The Avengers.

Oh yeah, and you know the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier? It’s apparently coming down at some point. Hard.

The tone here definitely evokes the “political thriller” approach we’ve been hearing about, with new cast member Robert Redford (S.H.I.E.L.D. exec Alexander Pierce) dropping some veiled comments about the world needing to change. Coupled with Nick Fury’s (Samuel L. Jackson) persistent paranoia, we’re very curious to see where this one is going.

Sadly, we still have to wait until April 4, 2014 to see the movie itself. But, if you want a look at this trailer on the big screen, be sure and catch  Thor: The Dark World when it opens November 8.

How Likely Is It That We Get Another Pacific Rim Movie? Del Toro Updates Us.

Are we going to get another Pacific Rim film filled with Jaeger vs. Kaiju epicness?

In an interview promoting this week's Blu-ray release of Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro confirmed that he and Pacific Rim screenwriter Travis Beacham are at work on the sequel, though at this point they're not sure if anything will move past the script phase.

"No, we are writing the sequel. Travis Beacham and I are writing, so that is active," del Toro said. "The decision to green light or not, that’s definitely above my pay rate."

That's encouraging news, though it's always possible the studio execs will take a look at what del Toro and Beacham are planning and get cold feet. But del Toro believes the box-office numbers are only part of the story. It's his hope that, as he and Beacham develop Pacific Rim 2, the first film's fanbase will be a vocal built-in audience waiting for another movie.

"To me, what was beautiful and flattering was how people saw the movie not once or twice but three, four times or more. People that love it, love it with great passion. So I would love to continue telling stories about that world."

Of course, del Toro's still got the pilot of his upcoming The Strain TV series to get through, as well as his next film, Crimson Peak, before he can get around to making this hypothetical sequel, but at least he's already putting some energy into it.

Tron Writer Replies To The Haters & Gives Us Sequel Updates

After waiting more than two decades for it, fans were quite mixed on what they thought of Tron: Legacy once it arrived. Now the Tron writer Adam Horowitz has finally opened up about all the hate.

After hearing so much grumbling since the film’s 2010 release, Horowitz still sounded gracious about the opportunity he had to make the flick — and potentially continue it with a sequel. The story was a bit of a mixed bag, and Horowitz said he has taken those complaints to heart, but tried not to lose sight of why he wanted to be involved with Tron in the first place.

Here’s an excerpt from his impressively candid chat with Forbes:

“Every movie gets a mixed reception to some extent. And whatever the critics said or didn’t say, we were very humbled by the praise and humbled by the criticisms. But, what really meant the most to me is, and I remember this very fondly, which was opening weekend of the movie, driving over to Burbank and going into one of the theaters in there that was packed and seeing kids who were my age, when I saw the original TRON, staring up at the light jets. And like that’s all I needed — because that was like I got to see myself in that audience. And that’s what Eddie and I were hoping to achieve, which was we’re fans and if we can create new fans in that franchise, which I think and hope we did, then I feel like it was mission accomplished. And if we’re lucky enough to continue on with the franchise, we only want to keep making it better.

You know, it’s a learning process. And that’s the thing. You read reviews and the thing with it is your job, as a reviewer, is so hard. You got to sit there and you got to take in the whole of the experience and then kind of make something of it. And maybe you get to see it a few times when you get to do it. So for us the perspective is, like with TRON for example, it’s been three and a half years working on that movie. So it’s like every decision that happened and everything that appeared on that screen there’s a reason for it and some things happen for different reasons – and some things happened as happy accidents or not. And you just try to take the things that you think really worked and kind of grow on them and move forward and improve upon them. And if something didn’t work, you try to take it as a learning experience. And I think reading the reviews, we love to hear what critics say, what the fans say. And it’s because that’s where we came from too. And, you know, we’re big boys – look, it’s the job. We are so lucky to be able to put stuff out. So if we’re gonna be lucky enough to do that we’ve got to be able to hear what comes back at us. And, you know, ultimately we’re doing it for you guys. So, you know, have at it.”

Wondering about a sequel? Well, Horowitz tells that it is still "chugging" through being developed and they're hoping to announce something soon.

The New Jurassic Park 4 Star?

We have to wait a while longer to see the perennially delayed Jurassic Park sequel, but now we at least know who might be starring in it.

Original cast members Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill are rumored to return, but you knew director Colin Trevorrow would be adding some fresh faces to the mix for the latest dino-outing.

The first one to break? The lovely Bryce Dallas Howard (50/50, The Help), who is reportedly in negotiations for a place in the film. No word on exactly what the role is, but you’d have to think it’s fairly large, considering it’s the first bit of casting news. But, good guy? Villain? We have no clue.

As we heard a while back, the sequel will be dubbed Jurassic World, and will reportedly follow a global dino-outbreak (hence the World) and return trip to the original Isla Nublar location from the first film.

We’ll take what we can on this one, since it won’t actually arrive on the big screen until June 12, 2015. What do you think of Bryce Dallas Howard’s potential involvement? Are you a fan?

The UK trailer for the Sci-Fi horror, The Last Days On Mars

There are clear and obvious trailers between this low-budget sci-fi horror and Ridley Scott's Prometheus, including the pacing of the trailer and the numerous suggestions of body horror. But considering has a much smaller budget than Scott's offering, The Last Days On Mars looks extremely slick, with some decent sets and solid special effects.

Movies set on Mars often have mixed fortunes - back in 2000, Red Planet duelled with Brian De Palma's Mission To Mars, and neither did particularly well at the box office - but the cast is great, and we're excited to see what sort of otherworldly horrors it has in store. We see glimpses of something gooey; is it a body-melting space virus, or something sentient, like the beast in The Thing or Leviathan? Whatever it is, it's sure to ruin Liev Schreiber's day.

We're still awaiting a UK release date, but when we get one, we'll pass it along.

JK Rowling Reveals Plans For New Harry Potter Inspired Film

JK Rowling has signed a deal with Warner Bros. to write the screenplay for a new fantasy film based on parts of the Harry Potter novels.

The author announced the news on her Facebook page and explained it isn't a prequel or a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but more an extension of that world.

The film will be based on Harry Potter textbook and spin-off book, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them and follows the adventures of it's fictional author Newt Scamander.

"Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world," Rowling said.

There will be some familiar faces though, as the film will involve various magical creatures and characters that have featured previously in the Harry Potter books.

"The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt's story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry's gets underway."

Talking about how the idea came about, Rowling said: "“It all started when Warner Bros. came to me with the suggestion of turning 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' into a film. I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of 'Fantastic Beasts', realized by another writer was difficult.

"Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt. As hard-core Harry Potter fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favourite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood."

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be the first in a new film series, so we can probably expect the usual run of video game tie-ins and merchandise along the way too.

Could A New Actor Be Playing Sherlock Holmes Soon?

You might have a new favorite incarnation of the world's most famous detective soon.

It was announced Thursday at the Toronto International Film Festival that Sir Ian McKellen will add Sherlock Holmes to the list of iconic characters he's embodied -- a list which already includes Hamlet, Richard III, David Copperfield, Gandalf and, oh yeah, Magneto -- when he teams up with director Bill Condon for the Holmes film A Slight Trick of the Mind.

The film, based on Mitch Cullin's book of the same name, will follow an aging, retired Holmes as he begins to lose his memory and looks back on a haunting case. Here's the synopsis:

"In 1947, Sherlock Holmes, long retired, lives in a sleepy Sussex village with his housekeeper and her amateur-sleuthing son. But far from living out a peaceful retirement, he is haunted by an unsolved case from fifty years ago. He remembers only fragments: a confrontation with an angry husband, a secret bond with his beautiful but unstable wife.

"With his legendary mental powers on the wane, and without his old sidekick Watson, Holmes is faced with the toughest case of his life — a case that might finally reveal to him the mysteries of the human heart."

Condon's recent work includes the last two films in the Twilight franchise, Breaking Dawn parts one and two, but don't hold that against him. He's also earned massive critical praise for films like Kinsey, Dreamgirls and Gods and Monsters, the 1998 film about the last days of Frankenstein director James Whale, which starred McKellen as the legendary filmmaker. That film earned McKellen his first Oscar nomination, a Golden Globe nomination and numerous film festival and film critics circle awards for Best Actor, and earned Condon an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.

So, we've got two men with a history of making cinema magic together reteaming to take on a Sherlock Holmes story that'll definitely be set apart from the Benedict Cumberbatch, Robert Downey Jr. and Jonny Lee Miller incarnations of the character. In an age saturated with Sherlock, it seems McKellen is poised to leave a different kind of mark on Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary creation.

Vin Diesel Says He Talked With Marvel About Starring In His OWN Film

He may be playing Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, but that wasn't Marvel's original plan for Vin Diesel.

Vin Diesel, despite being known mostly for voicing The Iron Giant and playing Riddick, is actually a pretty versatile actor. Marvel recognized this when they first had him come in to talk about his potential involvement in their upcoming movies.

Despite his voice acting ability, Groot was not the original intent for Diesel. Instead, there was the possibility that he'd get a franchise all his own. According to Diesel, "What we were originally talking about was a fresh IP (Intellectual Property) and that was the focus of our conversation."

Which has us wondering who he might have originally been tapped to play. Doctor Strange? Iron Fist? Ant Man? Even his wording is interesting. Could Marvel be considering creating movies based on brand new characters and then retroactively incorporating them into comics?

Meanwhile, Vin Diesel isn't definitely Groot yet. He's still got to work it out. "It's still up to my reps to allow that to happen," says Diesel. That probably boils down to time and money but, considering how much he's talking about it, we're pretty sure Vin Diesel will find a way to be Groot.

Top Ten Movies That Critics Hated More Than The Lone Ranger (But Which Succeeded Anyways)

A lot of speculation circles around whether or not bad critic reviews can lead to a failed blockbuster film.

So it started this week, when actors Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski started on American critics for their treatment of The Lone Ranger, claiming that the media was "gunning for" the ever since news of the budget woes were publicized, saying that critics were "reviewing the budget" instead of the movie, and that critics had made up their minds about the film as soon as they heard that Depp, Verbinski and Bruckheimer were working on it together, and that the movie didn't get the love that it should have because it was "original". Then future Transformers 4 star Mark Wahlberg claimed that the media is now "targeting" blockbusters, while also pointing a finger at the studios for spending too much money on effects-driven films that "pull the wool over the audience's eyes."

While critics reviews are definitely a factor in how a film does in the box office, they do not guarantee the film will do really well or really badly. And just to prove this, we've collected the top ten films that got worse reviews than The Lone Ranger, but still managed to do well in the box office.

Will Loki Return In Avengers 2? Tom Hiddleston Tells All

So if you're an Avengers fan you've probably been wondering whether or not Loki will make a return in the Avengers sequel. Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki spoke to Entertainment Weekly and ended the speculation.

“He’s not in it,” Hiddleston said. “Here’s the thing: I don’t think there’s anything else Loki could contribute to The Avengers, narratively. Joss gave me so many wonderful things to do in that first film that we’d only be trying to repeat ourselves, and probably less well in the second one.”

“When I think of all the things I loved as a child, for example, Hans Gruber wasn't in Die Hard 2. And in Indiana Jones, by the time he moved from the Lost Ark to the Temple of Doom, there was a whole new bad guy," Hiddleston explains. "I think keeping it fresh and new is good for The Avengers even though it’s a shame for me. And let’s face it, there’s seven or eight of them as it is, and Joss is thinking about adding two more, so the screen’s gonna be a busy place. But I had the time of my life on that film. It was the most fun ever.”

Sorry to disappoint, but don't get too sad about this. Loki is mainly featured in Thor: The Dark World, which will launch in theaters this fall.

Hiddleston commented, “Oh, I’ve got plenty to do in Thor [2], believe me. A lot of new stuff. It’s a new iteration of the character. It’s a new development. Another trick, another poker game for the god of mischief. And he plays it well.”

Thor: The Dark World opens in theaters Nov. 8, while The Avengers: Age of Ultron debuts May 1, 2015
